The Future of NURSING INFORMATICS

Technology is constantly expanding, which means that technology that effects healthcare is always changing. I believe that most nurses don't understand the concept of nursing informatics and the ways that they can impact the technology that they use every day. From my personal experience hospitals tend to make changes without always consulting with the bedside nurses, which are the staff members that should be consulted first. If hospitals wanted to make their bedside nurses happier I think they would benefit from getting ideas from bedside nurses first. Suppose a hospital was going to change the type of pump they use for IV infusions, it would be important for nurses to get a chance to see the types of pumps the hospital was thinking about purchasing and give their opinions. IT departments should also be very willing to listen to the ideas that nurses send in to them regarding the electronic health record. One good way that hospitals could include the opinions of nurses would be to send out a weekly or monthly IT newsletter which included upcoming updates or changes in any type of technology and give nurses the chance to give their input. Input could be given during open forum sessions or live chat sessions.

As technology expands I really think that we're going to incorporate more of it into nursing. Doctors already started using robots in surgeries! I could really see doctors’ offices using websites such as facebook and even blogging to incorporate health care. Even Skype could be helpful. If a patient has a non-life threatening question related to their health or prescriptions, they could easily hop onto Skype and chat with a nurse instead of having to drive all the way into the office. As we start using technology more, health care should improve. We can get information out to our patients without costing them an arm and a leg for a visit. Also if we could be easily accessed, patients may be less likely to use websites that aren't accredited and may possibly have false information.

Colleges are like old-age homes, except for the fact that more people die in colleges.

If you are given an open-book exam, you will forget your book.
Every instructor assumes that you have nothing else to do except study for that instructor’s course
80% of the final exam will be based on the one lecture you missed and the one book you didn’t read.
